Hach's Easy Chemistry - Alkalinity

Background

Alkalinity is a common parameter measured at various points in the drinking water treatment process. Maintaining alkalinity at a fixed level is a treatment strategy to minimize corrosion in the distribution system and comply with the Lead and Copper Rule. Alkalinity measurements are also required to calculate the percent TOC that must be removed under the Enhanced Coagulation requirement (D/DBP Rule) for surface water facilities.

Eliminates Subjectivity Found In Traditional Testing

The traditional method for measuring alkalinity is a cumbersome titration to an endpoint that can be subjective or variable depending on the sample composition. Hach has eliminated this hassle, frustration, and guesswork for process control samples with TNTplus Total Alkalinity reagents. With this colorimetric test, the user simply pipets reagent and sample into the vial and waits five minutes for the reaction to take place. The spectrophotometer automatically reads the barcode on the vial, selects the correct program, and displays the result.

One-Button Analysis with DR Spectrophotometers

TNTplus™ technology works exclusively with the Hach DR Family of Spectrophotometers (DR 2800™, DR 3900™, and DR 6000™). The chemistry vials require no preparation or glassware and enable the spectrophotometer to automatically recognize the testing method, eliminating the need to pre-program or create calibration curves. No blank is required, further reducing expense.
